Clip on Charms – Our Favourite Five

Clip on charms are beautiful little keepsakes, which are designed to capture that memorable moment. Some look at charm bracelets, as more off a fun way of making unique, affordable pieces of jewellery, whichever way you’ll be the centre of attention as others admire on.

The tradition charm bracelet had fixed charms or charms on an ‘o’ ring which were somewhat hard to take on and off easily. In more recent times as the charm bracelet has become more fashionable again, manufacturers have looked at other ways by using a bolt ring fastening or lobster claw clasp. These fastenings are the same as used on a necklace and some bracelet, but on a smaller gauge. This style of charm is what’s known as ‘clip on charm’ having become very popular due to their ease of use. The simply clip on and clip of the same as your necklace.

There are many different types of charms about from flowers, stars, shoes and the must have hearts. More often found in sterling silver, however if you shop around you’ll find a gold range too.

Our top five favourite clip on charms are;

1. Number one has to be the heart charm, as this is a symbol of love from the one person to the other. Perfect for a little valentines present and you can often find different sized hearts and even some set with cubic zirconia if you want yours to dazzle.

2. In second place we have the animal charms, with dog charms being popular with brightly coloured enamel detailing. Dolphins are popular too along with dragonflies.

3. Shoe charms takes the third place and there are as many different shoe charms as there are real shoes these days, sterling silver plain high heals, red enamel high healed shoe, black boot charms and flip flops too.

4. The fourth spot goes to flowers. These range from cloverleaf designs to daffodils and daisy flowers. We have seen some daisy flowers in sterling silver with a gold plated centre to the daisy flower. They certainly catch the eye!

5. The final place goes to the letter charms. Most commonly in sterling silver due to the cost and can be found in plain highly polished silver, or with cubic zirconia. Choose your initials or make your full name.

Our advice when buying these beautiful little things is to always ensure you purchase quality 925 sterling silver and 9ct gold. You may notice a sterling silver charm being rhodium plated, this is an added benefit as this helps eliminate the silver from tarnishing.
