GREEN DARNER DRAGONFLY (Anax Junius) Sunning in Back Yard

This GREEN DARNER DRAGONFLY (ANAX JUNIUS) decided to take an extended rest on our fence giving me ample time to retrieve my cameras. It just sat there in the warm sun cleaning its huge beak for a good 10 minutes…and we don’t even have a pond or any water nearby! Dragonfly Dance

Dragonfly is the essence of change, the messages of enlightenment and wisdom. It also brings communication from the elemental world, nature spirits. Dragonfly Dance My song “Dragonfly Dance” I dedicate to the memory of the late great “Connor Roscoe” who is now a ” Dragonfly”. Connor’s Mother, Vivo, used the following short story to explain to Connor’s 5-year-old brother and 3-year-old sister why their big brother wasn’t going to be able to come home anymore. I had never heard this story before and think it is quite lovely the way it explains mortality to a child. I thought maybe you would agree, so here goes… Dragonfly Living under the water in a lily pond were a colony of water bugs. They all lived happily together but every so often one would attach itself to a lily stalk and make its way up never to be seen again. One water bug in conversation with the others said he had noticed this and had often wondered why this happened. Moreover, what was on the other side of the water and more importantly, why none of the others had returned to explain. All the bugs made a promise that if they were to go up a stalk they would come back and say. Well one day the very bug who had made the suggestion found himself stuck on a stalk, he made his way up and through the water to the surface, breaking through he found himself on a lily pad, things had changed – he was now air breathing and he’d gotten wings, suddenly he took off in a flash, soaring through the air. Just then he
