Damselflies Eyes

Damselflies deserve some coverage too. They are not considered dragonflies but are often times called them. The main difference is their eyes are always separate.Damselflies have a weak, fluttery flight and their wings are held over their back. The damselflies are in the suborder Zygoptera which means same wings. Thank you to all the wonderful photographers who took these great photos.

Jason Mraz and Bushwalla – Creatures in the Yard (Sydney, 15.04.2009)

Jason Mraz and his good friend Bushwalla performing Bushwalla’s song Creatures in the Yard (also known as Hummingbirds and Dragonflies) at Jason’s Sydney show at the Hordern Pavillion. It’s good to see Jason giving his old friends a fair go at his concerts (he brought Gregory Page last time) I was shocked by Bushwalla’s voice – didn’t expect that to come outta him! He was great! Bushwalla also features on Jason’s album in the answering machine messages in “Details in the Fabric”

Dragonfly Swarm!

A feeding swarm of dragonflies recorded over the grass on the hill adjacent to Lakeside Lake, Tucson, AZ July 30, 2009. The mixed species swarm was made up of hundreds of individuals of Pantala flavescens, Pantala hymenaea, Tramea onusta, and Tramea lacerata. The camcorder was having a bit of a hard time figuring out whether to focus on the dragonflies or the grass on the hill in the background, so the focus fades in and out a bit, but you should get the idea. This was much more impressive to see live!
